Hideki Matsuyama chased down and raced past Jon Rahm on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead into the final round of the Genesis Invitational.
Matsuyama shot a 5-under 66 while Rahm stumbled to a 73. Cantlay shot a 68 to move into contention, three strokes behind Matsuyama.
Rahm, who started the day with a one-stroke lead, made three bogeys on the front nine and never recovered. Matsuyama, meanwhile, made birdies on the first two holes and never looked back.
Cantlay, who won the event in 2021, is looking to become the first player to win the Genesis Invitational three times.
